French retailer Rue du Commerce is taking orders for a new Acer tablet called the Iconia A1-810. It’s a previously unannounced tablet featuring a quad-core processor, Android 4.2 software, and a 7.9 inch, 1024 x 768 pixel IPS display.
In other words, it’s an Android tablet about the same size and shape as an iPad mini. But it’s much cheaper, selling for €199 in France. The iPad mini costs €339 in that country.
The Acer Iconia A1-810 features a 1.2 GHz MediaTek MT8125 ARM Cortex-A9 quad-core processor. It’s not exactly the fastest chip known to humankind, but it’s an inexpensive option for device makers looking for a quad-core processor.
The tablet has 1GB of RAM and 16GB of flash storage as well as a microSD card slot for extra storage space.
It features WiFi and Bluetooth, a 5MP rear camera and 0.3MP front-facing camera, a micro HDMI port, and a micro USB 2.0 port. The tablet reportedly gets up to 7 hours of battery life thanks to a 3250mAh battery, and weighs about a pound.
There’s no word on if or when we’ll see this model in the US.
Update: The Iconia A1 is coming to America for $169.

The battery sounds small for that kind of charge duration claim. But what’s finny is the ad: 7,9″ seems hilarious, mixing a euro-decimal-point with inches.
Inch is used all over Europe for certain things, among them rims and screens. But I agree, It’s a bit schizophrenic.
