Chinese device maker Kimdecent’s latest Android TV stick is one of the first to feature an Allwinner A31 quad-core processor. The Kimdecent CS868 is available for pre-order from Ali-Express for $95.

Kimdecent CS868

Like other TV sticks, it’s basically designed to let you run Android apps on a TV. THere’s an HDMI connector on one end which lets you plug the stick right into your TV.

Under the hood, this model has Allwinner’s ARM Cortex-A7 processor, PowerVR SGX 544 graphics, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of flash storage.

It also has a full-sized USB port, 2 microUSB ports, and a microSD card slot. The device runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, and according to benchmarks from Kimdecent, it gets an AnTuTu benchmark score of 10372.

That’s a little lower than the scores we’d expect from a device with an ARM Cortex-A9 quad-core chip such as NVIDA’s Tegra 3 or Samsung’s Exynos 4412. But it’s still a pretty good score for an Android device that sells for less than $100.

Update: As commenter Javi points out, it looks like some companies plan to offer a virtually identical device called the MK810.

  1. if u have any suggestions on a stick for a vizio via that would have good wifi, no heat prob, and no resolution prob for 1080 give me a yell. i even see that some are coming out with bluetooth also

    1. Because of CedarX VPU and 4K video support and unmatched 1080p / 2160p / 60 fps / 3D video decoding? Because of SGX 544MP2 GPU which can work at full hd resolutions without hitch?

      1. He meant with the new quad A9 RockChip coming out this is not looking good. A7 is more power efficient than A9 but A9 is more powerful, for a device that doesn’t run on battery life A9 is the obvious choice.

        1. You obviously don’t know whats out there. There is no chinese made chip with A9 quad core and SGX 544MP2 gpu!

There will be several Allwinner A31 Tv sticks and RK3188 TV sticks. Choose whatever you want, at the end, firmware quality and video playback / flash / youtube playback will win!

          1. SGX 544MP2 is a major minus for me. No linux support.
Got to agree with others here, the RK3188 is a much more interesting chip. A9 vs A7, much higher clocked, Mali 400 speed more than doubled vs rk3066.
It’ll be interesting to see what the power usage difference will be in the end though. Given the rk3188 uses a 28nm process whereas the A31 uses 40nm. Should even things up a bit.

          2. MALI also doesn’t have linux support for these devices. Don’t mix it up with Odroid devices. Besides, better gpu and VPU is what these devices need. You won’t run a fully featured office software on your big screen tv. If you are looking for a desktop pc replacement ubuntu tv stick, you won’t be happy with these. Get yourself odroid or similar developer board with proper linux support.

    2. Might be cheaper for them? The market will decide which one they prefer, I tend to think both will sell really well.

      To each his own
