Hyundai T7S: $186 tablet with Exynos 4 quad-core, 2GB RAM, 16GB storage

Hyundai is giving its 7 inch quad-core tablet a minor spec bump. The Hyundai T7S features the same Samsung Exynos 4412 quad-core processor, Mali 400 graphics, and 7 inch, 1280 x 800 pixel display as the original Hyundai T7.

But the new model has 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage, which is twice as much as the original.

Retailers including Boxwill, Pandawill, and Merimobiles are taking orders for the new tablet for about $186 and up. It’s also available from a number of sellers at AliExpress.

Those prices are about $20 more than the list prices for the original Hyundai T7 with half the memory and RAM.

Like the original Hyundai T7, the new model ships with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and features a 0.3mP front-facing camera and 5MP rear camera.

It has a 3300mAh battery which the manufacturer suggests is good for up to 5 hours of run time, and the tablet features 802.11n WiFi.

I broke my Hyundai T7 demo unit before I had time to fully test it, but it performed very well in benchmarks and seemed pretty responsive for such an inexpensive tablet. The Android 4.0 software is starting to feel a bit dated and the IPS display offered decent viewing angles, but seemed to scratch easily.

While most tablets with high-resolution 7 inch displays tend to scale up graphics and text so that they’re easily viewable, my demo unit behaved a bit differently: effectively using the extra pixels to fit all the content you’d expect to see on a 10 inch tablet on a 7 inch display.

Part of the reason I broke my tablet was that I was planning to root it and see if I could change the DPI settings… but while doing that I tried to upgrade the firmware and accidentally bricked the tablet. So proceed with caution if you’re trying to tweak the software on either the Hyundai T7 or Hyundai T7S.

I would have upgraded that battery before the RAM.

Yeah. I had a cheap Chinese $80 7″ tablet that was ok for what I’m doing and the battery up and failed. I replaced it with a Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 1GB/8GB: modest specs but a solid device with a 5000 mAh battery and cheaper than this Hyundai T7S now. It’s a wide field for choosing these days but I think I made a safe one.

I too have had my share of ups and downs with shall we say non-brand name tablets.
My solution was to get a good one and treat the others as what they still largely are: A toy and a gamble.

Pics on gizmochina say there will be jelly bean 4.2 aboard. Am I wrong?

  • Freeje

    Yep, 4.2 will follow.

Correction: Tab 2 7.0 only has a 4000mAh battery. And I managed to revive the battery in that $80 tablet now too.
