HP Slate 7 tablet ship date slips to June – Update: No it’s still April

Sure, the HP Slate 7 showed up at the FCC website this week. But apparently that doesn’t mean it’s on schedule to ship in April as planned.

Engadget just noticed that HP’s website now shows an estimated availability date of June, 2013 for HP’s upcoming 7 inch Android tablet.

Update: HP reached out to lets us know the date on the website was incorrect. The HP Slate 7 is still on track to ship in April, 2013.

HP Slate 7

The HP Slate 7 is a tablet that emphasizes price and portability over bleeding edge performance. It’s expected to sell for $169, and the tablet features all the specs you’d expect from a cheap Chinese tablet, including:

  • 7 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display
  • 1.6 GHz Rockchip RK3066 ARM Cortex-A9 dual core CPU
  • 1GB of RAM
  • 8GB of storage
  • Android 4.1 Jelly Bean

Unlike some budget tablets, the HP Slate 7 does have a microSD card slot, front and rear cameras, and support for the Google Play Store.

And it’s hard to argue with the $169 price tag. But by the time June comes around, this tablet could look even more outdated than it already does.

    1024 x 600 pixel display = Fail.

agree. should be at least 1280×800, then it will have chance to live

In some cases you could get away with that low resolution…but this isn’t one of them.
I recently ditched HP as my long-time printer company too.

a thoroughly yawn-worthy tablet if it were $99 I could see it possibly succeeding but otherwise it will quickly be superseded by more powerful tablets with better displays especially considering the Asus Fonepad is only $80 more. Unless it is sold with the RK3188 then this is pretty much setup for failure.
