Wirelessly charging a smartphone – by placing it on a tablet

Charging your phone or tablet by placing it on a wireless charging mat is so old school. Fulton Innovation is developing technology that lets you use your tablet’s battery to charge your smartphone. Just place the two devices back to back and if you’ve got a full charge on your tablet you can use it to top off your phone.

You can also charge either device by using a standard wireless charger.

The system complies with the Qi wireless charging standard, which means you can use any Qi compatible charging equipment to provide a wireless charge to the phone or tablet — but in addition to receiving a charge, the tablet in this prototype can also share its charge.

Fulton Innovation also plans to show off a charging pad that’s capable of charging multiple devices at once during CES this week.
