This summer Lenovo plans to add a new member to the IdeaPad Yoga family of ultrabooks. the Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 11s has a touchscreen display and a case designed so that you can use the computer like a notebook or fold the screen back 360 degrees and hold it like a tablet.
Like the IdeaPad Yoga 11, the new model has an 11.6 inch display. But while the IdeaPad Yoga 11 has an ARM-based processor and runs Windows RT software, the Yoga 11S features an Intel Core family processor and runs Windows 8 software. In other words, it’s pretty much just a smaller version of the IdeaPad Yoga 13.
The IdeaPad Yoga 11S measures less than 0.7 inches thick, has a 10-point multitouch capacitive touchscreen and an IPS display with wide viewing angles.
It also supports motion control, which lets you perform certain commands by swiping your hands in front of the front-facing webcam.
The ultrabook will be available with up to an Intel Core i5 Ivy Bridge processor in the US, and Lenovo will offer Core i7 options in some other regions.
Here’s an overview of the specs:
- 11.6 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel 300 nit IPS display with 10-point multitouch
- Intel Core i5 or Core i7 CPU
- Intel HD 4000 graphics
- Windows 8
- Up to 8GB of RAM
- Up to 256GB of solid state storage
- 1 USB 2.0, 1 USB 3.0, headset, SD card, HDMI ports
- 802.11n WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0
- 720p webcam
- Up to 6 hours of battery life
The IdeaPad Yoga 11s measures 11.7″ x 8″ x 0.7″ and weighs about 3.1 pounds. I had a chance to spend a few minutes with a Yoga 11s, and I think the size and weight make it a much better ultraportable laptop than the larger IdeaPad Yoga 13. Unfortunately, 3.1 pounds is still pretty heavy for a tablet and it didn’t take long for my arm to start aching when I was trying to hold the tablet in one hand.
Interestingly, while Intel says the Yoga 11S will be available with up to an Intel Core i7 CPU, Ultrabook News noticed that the demo model Lenovo is showing off has a shiny new low power Core i3 chip, which appears to be one of the new 13W low power processors Intel is expected to unveil this week.
Prices will start at $799, and the Yoga 11S will be available starting in June.
