Dell has dropped the starting price of its 10 inch Windows 8 tablet. The Dell Latitude 10 recently went on sale for $649 and up, but now the starting price for a 64GB tablet is $599 and soon Dell will offer a $499 model with 32GB of storage.
In order to trim the price, Dell did have to leave out a few features in the new Latitude 10 Essentials series.
First, the new lower priced tablets don’t have user replaceable batteries. Second, they don’t have active digitizers.
That means if you want to use a stylus you’ll need a passive stylus rather than a pressure-sensitive active stylus, which is an option on higher end models.
The rest of the specs are the same on the Essentials and Standard models, including:
- 10.1 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel Gorilla Glass displayÂ
- 10-point multitouch
- Intel Atom Z2760 Clover Trail CPU
- 2GB of RAM
- Up to 64GB of flash storage
- WiFi, Bluetooth
- 8MP rear, 2MP front cameras
- 2 cell, 30Whr battery (it’s just not swappable)
The new 32GB model should be available for $499 within the next few months, and Dell says that will make the Latitude 10 the cheapest Windows 8 tablet with an emphasis on business… unless someone else releases something cheaper by then.
Cheapest full Windows 8 tablet with only about 12GB free space!
Ah, calling Mumbai for “tech support” will be the best feature of this tablet. “Hello, this is Sanjay. Um, I mean Paul…”
