Amazon’s Cloud Player app for iOS lets you stream music from your Amazon account to an  iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad. But you can’t use the app to purchase music on your mobile device — you’ll need to purchase or upload tracks using a PC or a different device.

Now Amazon is making it possible to purchase MP3 songs and albums directly from an iOS device using a new version of the Amazon MP3 web store optimized for use in a mobile browser.

Amazon MP3

Just visit amazon.com/mp3 in the web browser on an iOS device and you’ll see a new HTML5 version of the store which lets you browse the Amazon MP3 store and purchase music.

Of course, Apple has its own iTunes music store… which is part of the reason Amazon can’t just build MP3 purchases into the Cloud Player app which is available from the App Store.

But it’s always a good idea to compare prices at multiple stores when you’re bargain hunting. Amazon has millions of songs in its catalog, thousands of albums that sell for $5 or less, and many songs that sell for $0.69 or less.

As soon as you buy a track from Amazon it will be available for streaming in the Cloud Player app or for download on supported devices.
