Over the past few months a number of companies have put out tiny Android TV sticks featuring low power processors such as the Rockchip RK3066 dual core CPU. But the J&W MINIX Neo G4 stands out from the crowd thanks to sturdy build quality, good power management, and the best WiFi performance of any mini PC I’ve tested so far.

The folks behind this little Android computer sent me a demo unit to check out recently… and now that I’ve done that, it’s time to let someone else have a chance.

The MINIX Neo G4 sells for  about $80, but you we’re giving one away as part of our Liliputing 2012 Holiday giveaway.

MINIX Neo G4

The MINIX Nego G4 has 1 GB of RAM, 8GB of storage, 802.11n WiFi, and quad-core ARM Mali 400 graphics.

It runs Google Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and offers a choice of a standard Android app launcher or a custom launcher designed for big-screen displays. The device also comes with the Google Play Store pre-installed, making it easy to download third party apps.

There’s an HDMI port and USB port which makes it easy to hook up a TV or monitor and a keyboard or mouse. MINIX also includes a tiny remote control which works reasonably well — as long as you have a direct line of sight between the remote and the Neo G4.

  1. Wow, these guys know how to tap into my nostalgia. Minix was the first Unix-like OS I used, and the Neo G4 part reminds me of the awesome Neo Geo video game hardware I lusted over in the early 90s.

  2. I would love to try one of these things with a dual core rock chip in it and see how the performance is increased.

  3. This is very neat. Much better than the other TV sticks I’ve seen. Is there root for it?
I hope to win (even though I never do XD). I love your site!

  4. I am already picturing the alternative uses for this device. cool

  5. This looks like a pretty awesome little device! It’s so small it almost seems like the kind of thing James Bond would carry around.

  6. these mini pc’s are the future!! it’s taking everything with you where ever you go and not hassling with a regular notebook. also, i would love to win one!!!

  7. Would like to have this one…..Please put my name in the hat. Thank you

  8. Leave a comment, checked. By 5:00AM checked, 12/20/2012 checked. Now can I win this thing finally?

  9. My daughter will love this we both love android games and it’s other features.

  10. I have been wanting one of these sticks to work on, I’m a kernel developer always on the lookout for cool embedded technology.

  11. I would love to have this for my TV. It would be so amazing to run all kinds of OS’s with this.

  12. The remote control is the critical factor for the success of this kind of product!
-> Unfortunately this TV stick doesn’t have a good remote control!

  13. I would really like to win this for my little brother. He has Downs and my mom could set him up with this device to get online. He can use android, but has to have people push the keyboard buttons for him. With this he could work on his own. I’m 29 and know mom has looked for and bought so many windows devices that were disappointments. I hope I win this for him, just to see him have some independence. This would also be great for people who truly can’t afford a computer or android device or especially an apple overpriced product. Good luck to all, but I still hope I win for my little bro. Thanks

  14. These mini PCs are really dope. Would love to get my hands on one *sigh*

  15. This would be the Perfect device for my 11 year old son. He has downs syndrome and lacks the fine motor dexterity to use a keyboard. I have purchased a head pointing device for him and a large screen monitor with USB ports. We had been using a windows based computer, but it was too complicated for him. We bought a less expensive tablet with android 2.3 and he could do so much more, but still the keyboard was a problem, and the tablet would not connect to the monitor. I was online today in search of SOMETHING to help him as he is so bright,it seemed unfair his finger movements were all that was keeping him from the android apps and internet use that he loves. Today I believe I have found the perfect device. He can control it by remote or his pointing device,it is android based ,easy to use ,and inexpensive. I would love to win this for him, but even if I don’t I want to thank liliputing for the article and video educating us all about this wonderful device. It may just be a cool thing to a lot of people, but imagine the miracle it is to the disabled and even to the financially disadvantaged as well. Happy Holidays to all and good luck to everyone.Again, thank you for this great contest and this wonderful article.

  16. Even willing to pay for the shipping 🙂 Can’t pass up the opportunity to win something. Thanks.

  19. Nice, I like the presence of a dedicated ‘off’ feature. This makes me
wonder if certain Linux distro’s can be used as with the Rikomagic MK802
series? I’d love to win this unit please!

  20. Love this little device. I wish HBO Go supported HDMI out on it, though…

  21. I haven’t ever won anything from Liliputing. Please put me in the running for the MINIX NEO G4 TV stick

  24. Came here looking into Raspberry Pi ideas. This looks just as great! Best of luck to everyone.

  25. Great reviews on great little machines. Playing with one of these babies might help me forget that my mother in law is in town.

  26. Oh man, this is the one I bookmarked as the ONE I WANT based on your review of a few weeks ago. (I want and need one of these little Android sticks for when I travel….) Little did I know it is literally the one I want?!

  27. I think these things are pretty cool. Not going to buy one yet though. Waiting for the Ouya to hit the market in March 2013.

  28. Pessimism 101 – Expect nothing, receive nothing in abundance. Don’t bother picking me to win, chance never makes eye contact with me. And, if I’m wrong, at least I’ll be pleasantly surprised. /)

  29. Awesome, this device looks pretty cool, than other smart tv sticks. Hope to be the lucky one this time :P. Charming voice Brad!

I’m so glad to see so many shenzen mini PC’s crop up, these things are wonderful for home automation, the brains for a NAS, a low power server, torrent client, robotics, etc.
