Google has released a new version of the Gmail app for Android that basically brings features from Android 4.2 to any phone running Android 4.0 or later. That includes pinch-to-zoom, auto-fit, and more.

The update is available from the Play Store.

Gmail app for Android

The new Gmail app has an option that lets you swipe a message in the conversation list to archive it, as well as an option to automatically resize messages that wouldn’t otherwise fit on your screen so you don’t have to scroll to see images or text.

The pinch-to-zoom feature will only work if you’ve enabled auto-fit.

Users can also now attach photos or videos to a message from within the Gmail app, or view larger photo previews.
