The Acer Iconia Tab W700 is a tablet with an 11.6 inch, full HD display, an Intel Ivy Bridge processor, and Windows 8 operating system. We first saw the tablet in June, but now Acer has confirmed that it will be available on Windows 8 launch day on October 26th, with prices starting at $799.99.

Acer Iconia W700

The tablet measures 0.5 inches thick and weighs about 2.3 pounds. That makes it a bit chunky and heavy by iPad standards, but the Iconia W700 is still smaller and lighter than most laptop computers — but it’s capable of performing most of the same tasks.

It’s powered by the Windows 8 operating system, which means that it can run finger-friendly tablet apps as well as pretty much any desktop app designed for Windows 7.

What makes the W700 stand out from most of the other Windows 8 tablets I’ve seen so far is the included cradle accessory that lets you use the tablet like a desktop.

Acer says the tablet resumes from sleep in 1.5 seconds, and boots in just 6 (which makes me wonder what the definition of “boot” is). The tablet is expected to get up to 8 hours of battery life.

It features 802.11n WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, a 5MP rear camera, a 720p front-facing camera, Dolby Home Theater v4 audio, 4GB of RAM, Intel HD 4000 graphics, 1 USB 3.0 port, a microHDMI port, and a 1920 x 1080 pixel display.

The cradle adds 3 full-sized USB ports. Acer also includes a Bluetooth keyboard and an HDMI-to-VGA adapter.

Acer will offer at least three models.

  • Intel Core i3-3317U with 64GB SSD
  • Intel Core i5-3317U with 64GB SSD
  • Intel Core i5-3317U with 128GB SSD

Prices will range form about $800 to $1000 in the United States. Acer will also offer the W700 tablets in Canada for $750 to $1000.

  1. Now THIS makes sense for the price. A Core i3 dual core vs. an Atom w/ 4 gig RAM, 1920×1080 screen and a 64 gig SSD. All this for the same price as an Atom craptrap. This is money well spent vs. the Atom. I applaud Acer for actually making a Windows 8 tablet that is worth a damned. Not to mention with this product the Windows RT tablets that manufacturers are looking to pawn off at $549 or better are looking like boat anchors as well. Especially knowing that this product exists and many more like it will follow for the same or lesser price. YAY ACER! You made a worthy Windows 8 tablet that stands out among the other guys.
