The developers behind the popular openSUSE Linux distribution have released version 12.2. The update is designed to offer faster performance, a new bootloader, updated desktop environments, and improved stability.
OpenSUSE 12.2 is available from the OpenSUSE download page, and there are 32-bit and 64-bit builds available with the GNOME or KDE desktop environments.
The latest version of OpenSUSE makes the move to the Linux 3.4 kernel and offers a choice of GNOME 3.4 or KDE 4.8.4 desktop environments. The GRUB2 bootloader is also used by default.
OpenSUSE 12.2 also includes an updated suite of apps including LibreOffice 3.5 for creating and editing documents, and GIMP 2.8 for doing the same with images.
The developers had originally planned to release OpenSUSE two months ago, but it took a little longer than expected to whip everything into shape. So while the next release (OpenSUSE 12.3) is scheduled for six months from now, that date will likely be changed as well.
Doh, I just updated all AP web servers to 12.1. I think I’ll wait for 13.0 or 13.1 before updating again. Thanks for the heads up.
It was bound to happen… it’s like carrying an umbrella to ensure that it doesn’t rain.
