Motorola and Intel have announced the first smartphone powered by a 2 GHz Intel Atom processor. The Motorola RAZR i features a 4.3 inch display, an 8MP camera, and Android 4.0 operating system.

The phone looks almost identical to the Motorola Droid RAZR M. Both phones have a 540 x 960 pixel Super AMOLED display and a thin bezel around the screen which lets Motorola cram a 4.3 inch display into a phone that would normally accommodate a smaller screen.

Motorola equips the RAZR i with a 2000mAh battery, which is admittedly much larger than the batteries found in most ARM-based smartphones. But until we see how quickly that 2 GHz Intel Atom Medfield chip drains the battery, we won’t know how much of an advantage that big battery provides.

Motorola is promising up to 20 hours of battery life with a combination of standby time and regular usage approximating “an average user profile.”

The phone’s 8MP camera can take up to 10 pictures a second. It can also record 1080p video. There’s also a 0.3MP front-facing camera for video calls.

The RAZR i measures 4.8″ x 2.4″ x 0.3″ and features a scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass screen and a case made of Kevlar and aluminum.

Motorola will offer the phone in parts of Europe and Latin America starting in October. Pricing hasn’t been announced yet for all regions, but Android Central notes that UK retailer Clove is selling the RAZR i for £285, or £342 including VAT. That’s about $463 US, before taxes.
