Motorola is offering a new universal dock for phones or tablets. It’s called the Motorola Flip Stand, and you can pick it up for $30 or pay an extra $10 to get a “Smart Charger” for use with select Motorola devices.
The stand itself is basically a hunk of plastic designed to hold any phone or tablet. It’s a “Flip Stand” because there’s a little tray that you can flip open to hold a phone-sized device. Leave it flipped up, and you can prop up a tablet on the 4.3″ x 4″ x 2.8″ dock.
Since this is a universal dock, you charge your device using your normal charging cable. The Flip Stand is designed so leave you plenty of space so that no matter where your charging port is located, you should be able to run a cable to it while your phone or tablet is docked.
There’s not exactly a shortage of tablet stands or docks on the market… but what makes the Motorola Flip Stand noteworthy is the fact that Motorola has made a habit of releasing new docking peripherals for nearly every new phone model the company has released over the past few years.
Now we have a one-size-fits all approach.
If you pick up the optional Smart Charger cable and have a compatible Motorola phone (such as the Atrix HD, Defy XT, Electrify 2, or Photon Q 4G LTE), you can create custom profiles on your device so that a clock or other application will automatically appear as soon as you connect the cable.
