Sure, you may use your iPad or Android tablet for almost everything that you would use a laptop for. But sometimes it’s nice to have a large display.
That’s where the MMT Monitor2Go comes in. It’s a portable 15.6 inch monitor that you can use as a PC display, or as a docking station for your tablet. Connect your tablet to the screen with an HDMI cable, and it will mirror your tablet’s display on the big screen.
MMT charges $299 for a model with a 1366 x 768 pixel display. There’s also a $329 model with a 1600 x 900 pixel screen.
Both models can be connected to a PC using an HDMI or USB connection, letting you use it as a portable PC display as well as a tablet companion.
Both models feature built-in slots designed to accommodate an iPad 2 or 3rd generation iPad, so you can use the tablets sort of like laptop computers.
That way you can use the tablet itself as a keyboard or drawing surface, while viewing everything on the large display in front of you.
The Monitor2Go measures 15.1″ x 10.1″ x 1.1″ and weighs about 3 pounds. When you add the weight of an iPad, it’s still lighter than many 15.6 inch laptops on the market.
On the other hand, MMT lists a battery power module as “coming soon,” which suggests you’ll need to keep a power cable handy to get the most out of this display dock.
