Google is rolling out an updated version of its Google Drive apps for Android and iOS, with an emphasis on viewing and editing documents including spreadsheets, text documents, and presentations.

Google Drive for Android

Google Drive is both an online file storage service, and an online office suite. Today’s update focuses on the office suit — formerly known as Google Docs.

For the first time, iOS users will be able to view presentations and edit documents within the Google Drive app. Up until now, you had to switch to the Safari web browser if you wanted to edit documents on an iPhone or iPad.

Google is also bringing presentations to the Android app, as well as the ability to comment on presentations. You can also now comment on other documents in Android and create and edit tablets from a mobile device.

Android users can now create folders, and upload files to those folders.

The update should start rolling out soon. Google published a blog post about the new features, but quickly removed it… suggesting the update is imminent, but not quite ready to go live.
