Chinese tablet maker Cube was one of the first companies to introduce a model with a Rockchip RK3066 dual core processor. Now Cube is one of the first companies to introduce an Android tablet with an iPad-like retina display.

The Cube U9GT5 has a 9.7 inch, 2048 x 1536 pixel display, which offers the same 264 pixels per inch as the third generation Apple iPad.

While the screen resolution is similar, under the hood the iPad and the U9GT5 are very different.

Cube’s tablet has a 1.6 GHz RK3066 dual core CPU, ARM Mali 400 graphics, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB to 16GB of storage. It runs Google Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, and features WiFi and Bluetooth.

A demo video from Phonandroid also shows that the tablet includes the Google Play Store.

  1. The referenced page says a price between $150-200.

That would be a very good price for a tablet like this but it sounds a bit cheap to me even for a Chinese OEM.

Shouldn’t this level of tablet include a quad-core processor like the i.MX6 and some 2GB of RAM? That would easily fetch 300EUR from me. Add a battery/keyboard docking station for $100 and I am a happy buyer.
