Archos 97 Xenon tablet features 1.4 GHz CPU, Android 4.0

Archos is adding a new 9.7 inch model to its mid-range Android tablet lineup. The Archos 97 Xenon is part of the company’s Elements line, where it joins the Archos 9.7 Carbon which launched this summer.

The new model has the same screen size, but half the memory and one quarter the flash storage. But while the Archos 97 Carbon has a 1 GHz ARM Cortex-A8 processor, the new Archos 97 Xenon has an unspecified 1.4 GHz CPU.

The Archos 97 Xenon features 512MB of RAM and 4GB of storage. It also has a microSDHC card slot for up to 32GB of additional space.

It has a 9.7 inch, 1024 x 768 pixel IPS display with a 5-point multitouch capacitive touch panel.

The tablet runs Google Android 4.0 software, features front and rear cameras, a mic and speakers, and support for WiFi, GPS, and 3G — although I suspect that not all models will ship with 3G.

Archos says you should get up to 8 hours of video playback time from the built-in battery. The tablet measures 9.8″ x 7.4″ x 0.45″ and weighs 1.4 pounds.

There’s no word on how much the tablet will cost or when it will go on sale.

Archos has got to be reeling from all the top name tablets being released these days in their sub-$300 space. I just looked at their web site and there’s nothing for under $199, and with the possible exception of their HDD tablet, the new Nooks, Fires, and Nexus leave them in the dust spec-wise.

It certainly smacks of desperation when you’re releasing a down-spec’ed device in an attempt beat the prices of your competitors with an inferior product.

Great information, I must say that Archos 97 Xenon tablet comes with great features and functions such as long battery, huge touch screen, Good processor, Runs on android OS, WiFi connection, etc.
