Amazon has updated its Cloud Player service, letting you stream music purchased from Amazon MP3 in the UK, Germany, and France.

You can either login to Cloud Player using a web browser, or run Amazon’s apps for iOS or Android.

Amazon Cloud Player

Cloud Player lets users upload up to 250 songs for free, which you can then stream from any device with an app or supported web browser. Any songs you purchase from Amazon MP3 are automatically added to your library for no additional charge. And if you want more space for your own music, you can pay $25 per year and get space for 250,000 songs.

The launch of Cloud Player in Europe comes shortly after Amazon started taking orders for its Kindle Fire tablets in Europe.

A Kindle Fire is basically an inexpensive Android tablet that’s tightly tied to Amazon’s digital book, music, video, and app stores. Amazon makes more money by selling content for the Kindle Fire tablets than it does by selling the hardware — so it wouldn’t have made much sense for the company to sell the tablets in Europe if there weren’t plans to expand its digital content services internationally as well.

Right now Amazon Cloud Player isn’t available in Spain or Italy, the other two countries where the Kindle Fire is available. But I suspect Amazon’s working on that.

One reply on “Amazon Cloud Player brings music streaming to (parts of) Europe”

  1. Seeing as Amazon UK sells – and ships – the Kindle Fire to countries outside UK, would Cloud Player potentially work in other Euro countries as well? Such as… Sweden? I am assuming not, when reading between the lines in the text below. But it would be cool if they did.
