Lenovo introduced its first 7 inch Android tablet in 2011. The IdeaPad A1 features a 1024 x 600 pixel display, a TI OMAP 3 single core processor, and Android 2.3 software.

Now it looks like Lenovo has given the tablet a minor update: You can pick up an IdeaPad A1107 from Best Buy for $199.99. It’s pretty much the same tablet, but with Android 4.0 instead of Android 2.3.

Unfortunately, while $200 was a pretty good price last year, I can’t think of many reasons to spend money on the Lenovo IdeaPad A1107 when you can pick up the Google Nexus 7 for $199.

The Google tablet has a higher resolution display, a faster processor, and the newer Android 4.1 operating system.

Lenovo’s tablet does have two things going for it: The IdeaPad A1107 has a microSD card slot and a rear-facing camera. The Nexus 7 has neither of those.

If you already have an IdeaPad A1 lying around, you may be able to update it from Android 2.3 to Android 4.0. Lenovo hasn’t officially released a software update for the tablet yet, so proceed with caution. But you can download the latest unreleased Android 4.0 update from Lenovo and then follow instructions at Gleescape to try installing it on your tablet.

You can also try a modified version of the update that’s tweaked to run with ClockworkMod Recovery.
