Amazon’s Instant Video service lets you rent or purchase movies and TV shows that you can stream over the internet or download on selected devices. Amazon Prime members that sign up for a $79 per year subscription can also stream thousands of videos for no additional fee.

While Amazon Instant Video works on PC, Mac, and set-top-boxes including the Roku, Xbox, or PlayStation, Amazon has been slow to roll out mobile apps. There’s an official client for the Amazon Kindle Fire, but up until recently that was about it.

Now there’s an Amazon Instant Video app for iPad.

Amazon Instant Video

The iPad app lets you stream videos or download rented or purchased videos for offline viewing. You can add items to a watchlist for later viewing, and the app supports Amazon Whyspersync which remembers your place. That means you can start watching a video on your PC and pick up where you left off on your iPad.

Amazon’s new iPad app is available as a free download from the app store. It’s not yet available for the iPhone or iPod touch… or for any Android device that’s not the Kindle Fire. Or rather… Amazon doesn’t make the Kindle Fire app available for download on other devices. But if you can get your hands on the Kindle Fire version of Amazon Instant Video, it does run on some other Android devices.

  1. I love the value of Amazon’s Instant Prime, as I shop at
Amazon all the time. The addition of the
Instant Video seemed like it was going to be a huge benefit too, but besides a
teaser for commercials by adding MI:3, I really don’t like the selection of the
rest of their content. My Dish coworker
watches movies and TV at lunch, so I asked him questions about how he does that. Now, I
stream with my Sling Adapter and the Dish Remote Access app, because it is the
content that I like, and it’s current. The
Dish Remote Access app works on both my iPad and Galaxy Tab so it is versatile
too. This way, I get more enjoyment, and
it is totally worth more than $79 a year, so I don’t mind paying more than just
    having Prime.

  2. I just hope they bring it to the regular android market soon. I will be happy to sign up for amazon prime, but I won’t buy a kindle fire and be limited to their market. I’m sure many others feel the same way, so we will just sit and wait…and of course watch netflix and hulu.
