In the latest chapter of As the Lawsuits Turn, Apple has succeeded in getting a court order to prohibit sales of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 in Europe. Meanwhile, the same German court rejected a bid to prohibit sales of the Galaxy Tab 10.1N.

The ban on the smaller tablet affects all 27 countries that are part of the European Union.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7

Samsung and Apple have been duking it out in courts around the globe, with each company claiming the others’ products infringe on design rights, patent rights, and other intellectual property rights.

In fact, the only reason Samsung introduced the Galaxy Tab 10.1N was to get around a ban of the original Galaxy Tab 10.1. Apple said that tablet looked too much like an iPad, so Samsung made some cosmetic changes.

Last month a US court sided with Apple, granting a preliminary injunction barring sales of the Tab 10.1 in the United States. It’s not clear if Samsung will try bringing the 10.1N model to the States next… or if the company will just push its newer tablets including the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0), Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1), and the upcoming Galaxy Note 10.1.

As for the now-banned-in-Europe Galaxy Tab 7.7, it’s a pretty nice little tablet with a 1.4 GHz dual core processor and a high quality 7.7 inch, 1280 x 800 pixel display. But it’s a relatively expensive tablet, selling for well over $500 in the US, making it a bit expensive when compared with the Galaxy Tab 2 products which sell for $249 to $399, or Google’s $199 Nexus 7 tablet.

    1. Wow, you’re right. Also caught two typos.

This is what happens when I haven’t had a cup of coffee in two weeks. I’m going to go triple-check a few other articles I wrote this morning now.

      Thanks!

  1. Now the European customers won’t get it and the iPad mini confused if the latter ever launches. Whew! Thanks Germany.
