The Vivaldi Tablet is a 7 inch tablet with an ARM-based processor and an open source operating system based on Mer Linux and KDE Plasma Active. It’s expected to ship next month for around €200. The US price hasn’t been announced yet.

You can sign up for ordering information at the Make Play Live website, but soon US customers may also be able to buy the tablet in the US from VAULTTechnology.

That’s because VAULT is one of the first retail partners in the new Make Play Live Partner Network.

Vivaldi Tablet

The KDE team announced the formation of the network today. It includes institutions that will be involved in the Vivaldi Tablet or other KDE Plasma Active devices in the future.

Right now there are four different types of partner:

  1. Add-ons Partners will offer apps, music, movies, books, or other digital content
  2. Integration Partners will help companies or institutions add Plasma Active to a device
  3. Enterprise Partners will help with deployment at companies, schools, or other environments
  4. Retail Representatives will sell the tablets to customers.

Clearly the KDE team is trying to build an ecosystem around the Vivaldi tablet and future Plasma Active devices… assuming there’s enough sustained interest in the project for there to be future devices.
