HP’s new ultrabook and sleekbook lineup doesn’t stop at the 14 inch screen. The company also has a new model with a 15.6 inch display. It’s available today with an Intel Core processor for $800 and up.

And AMD-powered sleekbook model should be available soon for prices starting at $600.

HP Envy 15 Ultrabook

The largest notebook in the new HP Envy ultrabook/sleekbook lineup is also the heaviest. The 15.6 inch model tips the scales at 4.5 pounds and measures about 0.78 inches thick — but HP assures me it still technically falls within Intel’s guidelines for ultrabooks.

Like the 14 inch model, HP will offer two models of this 15.6 inch notebook. There will an ultrabook version with an Intel Core family processor and an HP Sleekbook model with an AMD processor.

The case design, weight, and other features remain the same no matter which model you choose.

Aside from the extra size and weight, the 15.6 inch model is nearly identical to HP’s Envy 14 ultrabook/sleekbook. It has the same sized keyboard, a similar 1366 x 768 pixel glossy display, and comes with a range of hard drive and solid state disk options.

HP did take advantage of the extra space in the larger laptop to offer a higher capacity battery. The company says you should get about 9 hours of battery life from the 15.6 inch model, compared with 8 hours for the 14 inch version.

  1. This is ridiculousness! Unless the screen size is 11″ no buy on the 1366×768 res. Are you kidding me it is 2012 and 1080 screens are easily/widely available and should be for a 15″ screen with decent specs!!! (excluding budget POS of course) even phones have 720 screen res!!

  2. Grr… Other than a bigger battery what’s the point? They could have at least upped the screen resolution. And downgrading from a touchpad with buttons to the clickpad on the BIGGER system is kind of a slap in the face… Other than that it looks almost EXACTLY like a Macbook Pro when it’s open, at least in the pictures here. I had to look for the HP logo… Although the lid is black and by the looks of it glossy so it’ll pick up more fingerprints… So… yeah.

I like the 14″ Sleekbook more from the pictures. Not sure how they stack up in real life. I’ll have to swing by Mecca (our corporate HQ) and check them out when they get these in whenever they’re released.
