The UK-based company that designed the Aakash $35 Android tablet that’s available in India has introduced two new dirt cheap models for the Indian Market.

Neither the UbiSlate 7+ or UbiSlate 7C are exactly premium devices. They have slow processors, little RAM, and run older versions of Android. But they’re designed to be dirt cheap — and they even offer cheap mobile internet access.

Datawind Ubislate

The UbiSlate 7+ has a 7 inch, 800 x 480 pixel resistive touchcscreen display and 2GB of storage, while the UbiSlate 7c has a capacitive touchscreen display and 4GB of storage space.

Both tablets are powered by 800 MHz single core processors and 256MB of RAM. They have 3200mAh batteries, microUSB ports, and USB ports and run Google Android 2.2 Froyo.

The tablets cost less than $75, and Datawind has partnered with Indian wireless carrier Aircel to offer up to 2GB of GPRS internet bandwidth for about $2 per month. The tablets have built-in 2.5G cellular modems.

If users want to upgrade to 3G they can use a wireless dongle.

  4. please correct yourself…the devices run on Android 2.3
you cannot get the best device in the world for 3000! the idea is to provide alltime web access to millions of people who would otherwise not have access to it. affordability is the BIGGEST factor when it comes to dissemination of such technologies.besides, the device is just not a piece of hardware. it has a well developed educational ecosystem around it which makes it a powerful learning and thus an empowering tool
