It’s starting to look like Samsung won’t stop until it has an Android product with every conceivable screen size. This week the company added the Samsung Galaxy Player 3.6 and Galaxy Player 4.2 to its line of portable media players.

Samsung already offered 4 and 5 inch models in the US and a few other sizes in other regions. That’s not even counting all of the company’s smartphones and tablets with screens ranging from 2.8 inches to 10.1 inches.

Samsung Galaxy Player 4.2

The Galaxy Player line of devices are basically what you get if you take an Android smartphone and strip away the phone calling and mobile data connectivity.

Both new media players run Google Android 2.3 software.

The Samsung Galaxy Player 3.6 will have a starting price of $150, a 3.6 inch, 480 x 320 pixel display, 8GB of storage, and up to 6 hours of video playback time. It has a 2MP camera, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, and Bluetooth 3.0.

The larger Galaxy Player 4.2 has a 4.2 inch, 800 x 480 pixel display and provides up to 5 hours of video playback time. It’s expected to sell for $199, but the rest of the specifications are pretty much the same as those for its smaller sibling.

Unlike the Galaxy Player 5.0 I reviewed a few months ago, neither of the new models include GPS capabilities. Update: Yes, they do.

  1. The 4.2 has a Gryoscope, a Higher screen resolution, and better speakers , and it has more apps like a app that uses the Bluetouth setting with your phone you can use the Player as the phone! Knowing Samsung it prob has something that they aren’t telling the reviewers.

  2. Do these things have anything that the 5 and 4 inch do not have?  If they do, I’m gonna flip out because I just bought the 4 inch and seeing a 4.2 inch already makes me kinda mad…

  3. I own a Samsung Galaxy 4 and like it a lot. One downside though is the build quality, its very cheap plastic. But, I can remove the battery which is not possible on the larger Galaxy 5.

Not clear what these new models bring to the table.
