The iPad may good for surfing the web, reading books, or watching videos. But if you want to do any serious writing you may want to consider getting an external keyboard. If you want to listen to music at a high volume you may also want some external speakers. And if you want to use the iPad as a speakerphone… who the heck are you?
Anyway, if those three things are on your wish list, iHome has a new tablet dock which covers all your bases. It’s called the iHome iDM5 and it hit the FCC this week.
The docking station isn’t just for the iPad. It should work with any mobile device with Bluetooth capabilities, so you should be able to use it with an iPhone or Android phone or tablet.
The user manual describes the iDM5 as a “Bluetooth audio system and wireless keyboard with speakerphone,” but it also has USB ports which you can use to charge external devices. There’s a built-in mic which you can use for voice calls or recording.
You also get an audio input so you can use the dock’s speakers with virtually any device that has a headphone jack.
The iHome iDM5 is expected to sell for about $199.
