Sure, quad-core ARM processors are all the rage these days. But chip maker Amlogic is just now introducing its first dual core processor, which is still kind of a big deal since Amlogic’s low power processors are found in a number of low power Chinese tablets including the Zenithink C71 that’s the basis for the open source Linux-based Vivaldi tablet.
The Amlogic AML8726-MX processor family is a dual-core 1.5 GHz ARM Cortex-A9 processor with Mali 400 graphics.
That means it can handle HD video, OpenGL 3D graphics acceleration, and a range of basic tablet computing tasks. The processor family supports Google Android, Linux, and other operating systems.
Amlogic will ship samples this month and we should start seeing tablets, set-top-boxes, and other mobile devices based on the new system-on-a-chip soon.

did you mean to say ” … Amlogic is just now, introducing … ” 😛
I think you may have a typo in your first sentence? Do you mean to say ” … Amlogic is just NOW introducing … ”Â
this is great. We will see dual core cortex a9 in budget tablets by the end of the year.
I hop many of the low cost producers will opt for including ubuntu for android with their devices
