Toshiba Excite 10 inch tablet coming March 6th for $530

The Toshiba Excite 10 LE tablet goes on sale in the US on March 6th, one day before Apple is expected to introduce its latest iPad tablet.

Toshiba Excite 10 LE

Toshiba introduced the tablet at CES in January, although at the time it was called the Excite X10.It has a 1.2 GHz TI OMAP 4430 dual core processor, a 10.1 inch, 1280 x 800 pixel IPS display and a slim 0.3 case. The tablet weighs just 1.2 pounds, making it one of the thinnest and lightest 10 inch tablets available.

You’ll be able to pick up a model with 16GB of storage next week for $530. A 32GB model will run $600.There’s also a microSD card slot for expansion, front and rear cameras, and a mini HDMI port.

At launch the Toshiba Excite 10 LE will run Google Android 3.2 Honeycomb, but Toshiba plans to make Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich available soon.

The tablet is already available in the UK for £399 and up.

They never learn.  There’s a sucker born every minute.  Look at Playbook the folks in Canada figures that at $199 price point they can move a lot of hardware.  outdated spec and going up against Apple Ipad 3.  It’s like me play one on one with LeBron James.

RIM has gotten to the point that they are pretty much willing to sell the Playbook for a loss.  16GB version of the PB actually cost them $273 to make and they’re selling it for $199.

So the PB shouldn’t be used for a price comparison.  The Toshiba Excite also has slightly higher specs but I agree it could have gone for say about $100 less when compared to something like the Asus Transformer.

I am shock to see these prices…..

        Make that at least $150.

When the lower-spec Transformer Prime TF300 comes out (very soon), it will likely cost as much as the orig Transformer ($399) since it is intended to replace it.

This tablet is way lower spec than the TF300 (no Tegra3, no lapdock) so a $50 should be a minimum price difference.

Sorry, but the Transformer doesn’t usually come with the dock either.  It’s an additional $149 to add the keyboard dock.

While the TF300 is using a lower clocked version of the Tegra 3 and the case design is less costly than the higher priced Transformer Prime, etc.

The Toshiba Excite on the other hand is using a higher cost case design, since it’s going for one of the thinnest and lightest category and that usually calls for a more premium price than the thicker and heavier standard tablets.

Besides, reducing the $529.99 price by $100 already puts it about $30 of the $399 Transformer.  While the Prime is closer to the Excite’s present cost.

I know that the TF doesn’t come with a dock for the $399 price but you have the option for it, while you don’t have this option for the Excite. This alone makes the TF more apealing.

Thinness may be a factor for some but it is not for me and I don’t think there will be a huge difference between the TF300 and the Excite.

The TF300 will likely cost $399 so it is not the same cost as the Excite. The TF201 is similar ($499 for the 32GB model on Amazon), the TF700 will likely cost $50-100 more than the Excite.

You’re missing the point, the Excite is a premium class product like the Transformer Prime.  Being thinner and lighter than the competition requires a higher build quality.

So they’re never going to knock it all the way down to a consumer grade pricing, it’ll have to fall somewhere in-between to be fair.

The TF300 is a consumer model and not a premium class model.

While the dock isn’t something that matters to everyone going for a tablet and as pointed out neither the Excite or the Transformer come with it.

Though Toshiba is going to offer a dock for the Excite, it’s just not clear what kind of dock it will be.
