Netbook Navigator Windows tablet goes dual core with Atom N570

Windows tablet PC maker Netbook Navigator has launched a new model with a 1.66 GHz Intel Atom N570 dual core processor and a starting price of $499.99 — if you don’t mind picking up a model with no operating system.

Netbook Navigator NAV10T

The base price includes a Netbook Navigator NAV10T tablet with a 10.1 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel capacitive pixel multitouch display, 2GB of DDR3 memory, and a 16GB solid state disk. You can configure the computer with up to 128GB of storage, a 3G option, and a choice of Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional, or Ultimate.

The NAV10T has 802.11n WiFi and Bluetooth 2.1, a 1.3MP front-facing camera, stereo speakers, 2 USB ports, a microSD card slot, and a SIM card slot. It has a 3 cell battery and weighs 1.8 pounds.

Interestingly, the company is charging the exact same price for the NAV10i tablet with a single core Intel Atom N455 processor.

even though i don’t need another tablet have 3 already, i would be interested to know the battery life, and if it is windows 8 compatible.

I’m use almost all “newer” x86 processors will support Windows 8. What I’m more interested in knowing is if Windows8 will support current dual core ARM processors? I would love to have a dual boot windows 8/ICS tablet.

I am looking for a netbook tablet. I am thinking of the HP TouchSmart
tm2t. I want a decent sized screen and at a sub $1000 price.

Now if they would just release this CPU in their 7 inch line….

I suspect your usage will be 80% or more ICS and 20% or less Windows 8.  There will be very little software for Windows 8 ARM unless Microsoft subsidizes the developers.

Regarding this Netbook Navigator NAV10T product, the Atom N570 is just about the slowest CPU I would consider for running Windows 7.  It’s a bit faster than an Intel Core2 Solo single core CPU at 1.4 GHz, but a bit slower than an AMD E450 dual core Fusion CPU.

The only thing I don’t like is that the 1.8″ SSD is only 16 GB (you might be able to shoehorn a stripped down version of Win 7 on this, but you won’t have space for anything else).  I would try to get at least a 64 GB SSD

I think I’ll wait until this winds up on one of those deal sites for $299 later this year.  It seems like these tablets/slates are for sale at these sites every two weeks or so.  The introduction of Win 8 slates will accelerate this trend.
