Samsung Series 5 ultrabook

Samsung’s first ultrabooks are now available for pre-order. The Samsung Series 5 ultrabook is available in two versions. There’s a 13.3 inch model which J&R is selling for $899.99. There’s also a model with a 14 inch display that sells for $949.99.

The larger model has a DVD burner, but both laptops have 1366 x 768 pixel displays, Intel Core i5-2467M processors, 4GB of DDR3 memory, and 500GB hard drives with 16GB of solid state storage cache.

According to Samsung’s original press release, additional models may offer AMD graphics or 128GB solid state disk options. But neither of those features are available in the US yet.

The 13.3 inch model measures 12.4″ x 8.6″ x 0.7″ and weighs about 3.2 pounds. Exact measurements aren’t available for the 14 inch model.

It’s not just the small size and light weight that distinguish these laptops as “ultrabooks.” They also feature Intel’s  quick resume technology, wireless display capabilities, and a few other premium features.

The laptops also feature Bluetooth 3.0, 802.11n WiFi, HDMI output, 4W stereo speakers, and a few other elements that help set them apart from less expensive thin and light laptops such as the Samsung Series 3 Princeton notebook, which sells for about half the price.
