One Laptop Per Child might need to change its name soon, now that the organization is preparing to launch a $100 tablet. But the folks behind the original XO Laptop haven’t given up on cheap notebooks. In fact, they’re preparing to launch a new model in March.
The XO-1.75 will feature a Marvell Armada PXA618 ARM-based processor. That’s the same chip used in the XO 3.0 tablet. But the laptop will have a QWERTY keyboard, a sunlight readable display, and the same rugged design of earlier XO Laptop models. The key difference is the ARM-based processor which uses just 2 Watts, or about half as much power as the x86 chip in the XO 1.5 Laptop.
According to OLPC News, the XO 1.75 will ship in March for $185 and up. Exact prices will vary depending on the configuration. For instance, the laptop is available with 4GB or 8GB of flash storage.
What’s the vise for?
Sorry I don’t know how this got on the laptop thread, it should be on the OLPC Tablet one…
