Samsung has no plans to update the original 7 inch Galaxy Tab to run Google Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. But while Samsung says no, a team of independent developers say yes.
For the last few months a few members of the xda-developers forum have been busy porting CyanogenMod 9 to run on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 inch tablet. CM9 is based on Google Android 4.0 source code.
The tablet was released in 2010 and features a 1024 x 600 pixel display and a 1 GHz Samsung Hummingbird ARM Cortex-A8 single core processor and 512MB of RAM.
At this point CyanogenMod for the Galaxy Tab is still a work in progress. It supports WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, and most other features. The camera does not work, and the latest builds are having problems with phone calls, and mobile data.
Netbook News recently took Ice Cream Sandwich for a spin on the Galaxy Tab, and you can check out the resulting video below.
