Now that BlackBerry PlayBook owners can root their tablets with the Dingleberry tool we’re starting to see some interesting hacks arrive. We’ve already shown you how to install the Google Android Market on a rooted PlayBook so you can download and install Android apps with ease.
Now guillem at elTecnoBlog has figured out how to enable USB host support on the BlackBerry tablet. This lets you plug in a USB flash drive and access the contents on the PlayBook. You should also be able to use a USB hard drive, SD card reader, or other portable storage device.
In other words, you can carry movies, documents, or other files with you on a portable flash drive or hard drive instead of filling up your tablet’s limited space with these files. You can also easily copy files to and from a computer without plugging in your PlayBook.
Unfortunately the tablet has a micro USB port instead of a full-sized port, which means that you’ll need an adapter to plug in most removable storage devices.
Guillem plans to post instructions for enabling USB host support on elTecnoBlog soon.
