HP to sell refurbished TouchPads for $99 and up Sunday 12/11/2011

HP TouchPad

HP has announced that it will offers dirt cheap HP TouchPad tablets again on December 11th. But it’s a limited-time offer and there are a few catches.

  • The tablets will be refurbished tablets.
  • TouchPads are limited to two per customer.
  • All sales are final.
  • There is only a 90 day warranty.

The HP TouchPad tablets will be available at HP’s eBay store starting at 6:00PM Central Time on Sunday, December 11th. Both 16GB and 32GB models will be available in limited quantities. You’ll need to pay using PayPal.

While the HP TouchPad didn’t sell very well when the company launched the tablet this summer for $499 and up, the 9.7 inch tablet has become pretty popular since HP canceled the product and dropped prices to just $99 for a 16GB tablet and $149 for a 32GB model.

The TouchPad has a 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon dual core processor, 1GB of RAM, and a 1024 x 768 pixel display. It ships with webOS 3.0 software, but the tablet has proven popular with tweakers who have installed an alpha version of Google Android on the TouchPad.

Android for the TouchPad is still a work in progress, but the tablet feels more responsive when running Android than webOS, and there are hundreds of thousands of third party apps available for Android, compared with closer to 10,000 apps for webOS.

In addition to $99 and $149 tablets, HP will be offering an optional 3-piece accessory bundle this weekend with a case, charging dock and wireless keyboard for $79.

Thanks for posting this.  I got one back when they initially went on sale and I use it every single day.  I may have to get two more as Christmas presents for people.

Best $99 I’ve spent on tech this year.  I also have a Fire and this is way better than a fire.

Android is garbage compared to webOS.

Oh yes, the world’s most popular mobile OS is garbage, and the most elegant “WebOS” is going to die.

VHS was demonstably Garbage compared to BetaMAX and Video2000, guess which one won the format wars?

In the end not the technologicaly superior product won out, but the one with the best licensing poly, 3rd Party support, and consequently lowest prices.

WebOS IS technologicaly superior to Android. Where it failed was that:
A.) it was not licensed to a wide range of manufacturers, and a lot of developers and consumers are sceptical of products they can only get from 1 company if that company doesn’t have a fruit for a logo, because if that company decides to cancel the product, there is no other to keep the system alive.

B.) There was no real effort made to get 3rd party developers for the platform, like “win X Dollars for the best WebOS App”-Competitions or the likes

That sizzling sound you hear on Sunday night will be eBay melting down. I’m shooting for a pair myself, but I’ll bet I don’t even get on eBay before the hordes tear the servers down.

    Wish me luck!

Only a 90 day warranty? That speaks volumes, everyone should avoid this “deal” like the plague.

I bought a TouchPad when it was new and available for $149 at Radio Shack in late August, already I’ve had the case crack and the display has tremendous light bleed. All-round the TouchPad is a really low quality product, I’m surprised HP was confident enough to launch it with iPad-like pricing in the first place.

oh man I hope I get one for blogging on wordpress . . . They are so going to sell out in a handful of minutes. for me, its either one of these, or an ereader this year.

I went into the ebay store at exactly 6:00PM CST – The page was hung and didn’t load for ten minutes.

I was able to put one of each tablet into my shopping cart, but then eBay hung for another 20 minutes and wouldn’t let me complete the sale.

By the time I got to the payment screen, it told me that I had missed out on the items.

    SO FRUSTRATING!!!

I was on the mailing list for months. I should have gotten first crack at one of these.

And there’s no way to contact HP from the eBay site.

    Totally sucks!
