Archos smart home phone coming to America?

Archos smart home phone

The Archos 35 smart home phone may look like a typical Android smartphone — but it’s not meant to work over a cellular network. It’s basically an Android phone meant for use around the house — or a portable Android tablet that fits in your pocket and makes phone calls.

Archos introduced the smart home phone this summer, and now it looks like it may finally be on its way to the US. The device showed up last week at the FCC website.

The phone has a 3.5 inch, 272 x 480 pixel touchscreen display, a 1 GHz TI OMAP 3630 processor, 8GB of storage, and Android 2.2 Froyo operating system. It’s not exactly a top-of-the-line Android device, but it’s probably a lot more powerful than your last cordless phone.

It has a front-facing VGA camera which means you can use it to make video calls. You can also install and run Android apps and games.

There’s no word on the price or release date.

$149 with DECT base station (I think a cheaper bundle without base station if you want more than 1, you can have up to 5 on the same DECT base station) available now.
