Toshiba Z830

Toshiba’s first ultrabook will debut in the US as a Best Buy exclusive. The electronics retailer will soon off the Toshiba Portege Z835 for $799.

The Toshiba Portege Z835-P330 features a 13.3 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel display, a 1.3 GHz Intel Core i3-2367M processor, 4GB of RAM, and a 128GB solid state disk.

The laptop measures 12.4″ x 8.9″ x 0.6″ and weighs about 2.4 pounds.

Toshiba is one of the first companies to hop on the ultrabook bandwagon. Ultrabooks are a new category of thin and light laptop that Intel is pushing. They’re designed to offer some of the benefits of netbooks or tablets including light weight and small size, while offering the power you’d expect from a high-end notebook thanks to a powerful processor and fast solid state disk.

The Portege Z835 is expected to come in multiple configurations, and it looks like the Best Buy model will be the cheapest of the bunch. But at $899, it’s the same price as the Acer Aspire S3 ultrabook, cheaper than any Asus Zenbook ultrabook, and about $100 cheaper than the least expensive MacBook Air.

  1. Too bad you will not be able to get a factory sealed one that has not been “optimized” by the Geek Squad.

  2. Looks like a very good price. And we all know Toshiba has the best quality of the lot. Personally, I won’t spend more to buy something from China or owned by a China company. Nothing like a Japanese product.

    1. Most Japanese brands are built in China these days, mate. Only very select models from Tosh, Fujitsu and NEC are assembled in Japan (mostly for the Japanese domestic market only) these days.

It’s not really fair to knock all Chinese companies either. Lenovo still builds very decent Thinkpads.

With regards to this model: Specs and price seem decent, but the 1366×768 resolution is a tad disappointing. Remains to be see what kind of SSD they’ve included.
