Samsung Galaxy WiFi 3.6

The Samsung Galaxy WiFi 3.6 looks like a smartphone, but it’s not. Instead it’s a handheld device that runs Google Android, offers WiFi connectivity, and does just about everything an Android phone does — except for make phone calls or surf the web over 3G or 4G.

It’s kind of like Apple’s iPod touch, except it runs Android.

Samsung has been showing off similar devices since last year, but few have ever made it to market. This new model is actually expected to make it to market in October… in the UK at least. It will hardly the first Android version of an iPod touch to hit store shelves, but it certainly looks like one of the most polished devices in its class.

The Samsung Galaxy WiFi 3.6 has a 3.65 inch HVGA display, a 1 GHz TI OMAP processor, and Google Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Unlike some non-phone devices running Android 2.x, the Galaxy WiFi 3.6 will come with access to the Google Android Market, which should make it easy to download and install third party apps.

There’s a front-facing VGA camera and a 2MP camera with a Flash on the rear. The device supports 802.11b/g/n WiFi and will be available with 8GB or 16GB of storage. It also has a microSD card slot for expansion.

The 8GB model will sell for £149 or about $241, while the 16GB model will run £169, which is about $274 US.

  1. Retarded!!!! release the 4.0 and 5.0 in the U.S. already!
    Samsung is a retard!!!!!!

  2. So is this more likely to come to the U.S. market than the Samsung Galaxy Player S Wifi models? Who knows.

  3. Everyone talks about how Apple created the tablet market, but I think they really created the portable not-a-phone phone tablet market.  The ipod touch has gone without any good competitors for years.  Why is that?

    1. I suspect it’s because the carriers paid the device makers for not only exclusivity but also non-competition in the device class.  We should have been seeing not only competing at the phone level but at the general device level with SIM card slots allowing the consumer free choice.  But there is no longer any such thing as a free market because of the HUGE wealth of these global corporations.  In decades past only a few corporations would even consider such moves but today most all of them can afford to swing such deals.  That is what is stiffing creativity as well as competition that should be driving prices DOWN not up.

  4. 3.6? The fuck is my 5.3 inches?!

I kid, I kid. Sammy has to make a price point. At least it has a FF camera.
