HTC Puccini

Update: AT&T announced this morning that it will be the exclusive launch partner of the HTC Jetstream tablet, formerly known by its code-name “Puccini.”

HTC may not have actually announced that it’s making a 10 inch Android tablet yet, but we’ve seen enough leaked photos of the HTC Puccini to know that it’s probably real. Now a leaked ROM from the tablet is making the rounds, which pretty much seals the deal.

Xda-developers forum member ikingblack has posted a link to the ROM. It’s basically a copy of all the files found on the tablet, including operating system files, wireless drivers, and more.

The only problem is that right now since nobody outside of HTC actually has their hands on a Puccini tablet, there’s no way to flash the ROM onto a tablet and run it. For now hackers are combing through the ROM to see if it can be tweaked to run on other devices — such as the HTC Flyer 7 inch Android tablet. If so, it could soon be possible to run Android 3.x Honeycomb with HTC Sense software on the company’s 7 inch tablet. Right now the Flyer comes with Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

The process of porting the Puccini ROM to the Flyer isn’t trivial though. The tablets will likely have different processors and screen resolutions, among other things.
