HP TouchPad

HP may have discontinued production of the HP TouchPad tablet… and virtually every retailer in the US that was carrying the tablet sold out almost immediately after marking down the prices to $99 for the 16GB model and $149 for the 32GB model this weekend. But there’s still hope for those that have been getting their hands on HP’s suddenly popular tablet.

According to HP spokesperson Bryna Corcoran, the company will have more in stock early this week. While HP isn’t making any more, the company may still get some in stock from stores that are returning tablets or from manufacturers that still have units left to ship.

You can sign up to receive an email notification when more units are in stock — although HP has been having trouble keeping that page running due to heavy demand. I also suspect that the company will sell through any remaining stock rather quickly.

Meanwhile, the discounted HP TouchPad pricing has started to roll out around the globe in countries including Germany, France, Australia, and the UK.

Update: Due to overwhelming demand, HP is no longer accepting new email addresses for notifications.

Update 2: Instead, HP recommends following Bryna Corcoran on Twitter for updates. Her follower count has kind of exploded in the last day or two.

  1. As of 07:00 hours Newegg.com has the 16gb & 32gb HP TouchPads in stock. However, they are still priced at $299 & $399.

  2. i swear i’d left a comment saying i’d managed to snag a touchpad, but it seems to have disappeared, have i done something to peev you brad? 🙂

    1. I don’t see anything in my deleted messages. Let me know if it happens again and I’ll ping the folks at Disqus.

FYI, I sometimes do delete posts with links in them if they look like spam… and first thing in the morning it’s possible that I might confuse legit links from long-time readers/commenters with spammy links before I’ve had a cup of tea — but I’m pretty sure that’s not what happened in this case.

  3. HP is no good at pricing.  First they price it too high and then the price it too low.  If they priced it right in the middle I bet it would have sold well.

I kind of wish they priced the discontinued tablets at $150 and $200.  Then maybe I might have had a chance to get one.

  4. All the Touchpads in Australia sold out within half an hour. It takes half an hour to get from my university to the city so when I got there I was just a little too late. I even phoned stores in rural Queensland but they were sold out just like the city was. I somehow doubt HP has any stock on the way to Australia.
