Computer maker Asus is starting to offer Eee PC notebooks with Ubuntu Linux around the globe. Last week an Eee PC 1215P notebook with a 12.1 inch display and Intel Atom N570 dual core processor went on sale in Italy with Ubuntu as its operating system instead of Windows 7. Now you can also pick up a 10 inch Eee PC 1011PX netbook with Ubuntu Linux in Italy.
The Eee PC 1011PX features a 1.66 GHz Intel Atom N455 single core processor, 2GB of DDR3 RAM, and a 250GB hard drive. It has a 1024 x 600 pixel display and Intel GMA 3150 graphics. It’s designed to get just over 4 hours of battery life from a 3 cell battery.
Asus currently has no plans to offer netbooks or notebooks with Ubuntu in the United States. But last month the company said it would begin selling Ubuntu netbooks including the Eee PC 1011PX, Eee PC 1001PXD, and Eee PC 1015PX in some regions.
Asus does plan to offer one Linux netbook in the US soon. The Asus Eee PC X101 will be a low cost 10 inch mini-laptop with an 8GB solid state disk and MeeGo Linux operating system. It’s expected to sell for under $200 when it goes on sale this summer.
