As the Asus Eee Pad Transformer inches closer to a US launch, Asus has added an official product page for the tablet to its web site, and Best Buy has a rather impressive looking advertisement for the Transformer which compares it favorably to an Apple iPad… with a keyboard duct taped to the bottom.

The Eee Pad Transformer is a 10.1 inch tablet with a 1280 x 800 pixel display, a 1 GHz NVIDIA 2 dual core processor, and Google Android 3.0 Honeycomb. But what really makes the tablet special is the optional keyboard dock which lets you use the device like a laptop. The keyboard also has its own battery, which Asus says will increase the battery life of the Transformer from 9.5 hours in tablet mode to 16 hours in laptop mode.

Unfortunately Best Buy doesn’t have a price or release date for the tablet yet, but you can find detailed specs and photos at Best Buy and Asus.com. The Eee Pad Transformer is already available for order or pre-order in the UK and Taiwan.

Update: Unsurprisingly Best Buy has removed the ad. Best Buy, by the way, also sells iPads.

  1. The Apple fans are hating on this thing big time. Especially since the Best Buy ad comparing the iPad 2 duct taped to a keyboard. Must suck to be stuck with only one form factor and a very limited one at that.

  2. I’m hoping for an earlier release. I stopped by my local Best Buy today to inquire, given the Asus duct tape jab at Ipad. They said that BB has an exclusive deal to release the Acer Iconia tablet before any of the other new tablets. Also said that BB has extensively tested the new tabs, and have decided there are only 10 they will carry (I assume that includes Xoom and Ipad).

    1. I wondered why all the Archos models had disappeared from their website.

    2. The Playbook is being released before the Acer. I wonder if the BB person you talked to really is that aware of release dates?
