The Asus Eee Pad Transformer has been making a world tour lately, launching first in Taiwan and then in the UK. But what about the US? Turns out the wait is almost over. We already know that electronics retailer Best Buy will offer the Android tablet with an optional keyboard docking station, and now we also know the price.

Joanna Stern reports that the tablet will run $399, while the keyboard dock will set you back another $149. The tablet’s not a Best Buy exclusive. It will also be available from other stores later this month.

The Asus Eee Pad Transformer has a 10.1 inch, 1280 x 800 pixel capacitive touchscreen IPS display, a 1 GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual core processor and runs Google Android 3.0 Honeycomb.

The docking station is what makes this model special though. While there are plenty of Bluetooth keyboards on the market for tablets, the Transformer Dock fits snugly with the tablet allowing you to use the device like a laptop. There’s also a second battery in the dock. Asus says you should be able to get up to 9.5 hours of run time when using the tablet alone. Add the keyboard and you can crank that up to 16.

  1. Brad ~ Editing mistake:
“turns out the way is almost over. ” should be “wait”.
I’m excited to play with this once it comes out and might actually pick this little guy up!

  2. It seems a bit odd to think that I could buy 2 netbooks (low end obviously) for the price of the transformer and dock. I say this based on the likely $499 price for tablet/dock. It’s close, but certainly I could get a Kindle plus a netbook and still be saving money. Logic tells me this won’t make sense for a lot of people. Add to the fact that Android 3.0 is essentially an unproven beta OS.

    1. or you can buy ipad 2 or xoom for higher price and.. not get a keyboard/dock/15 hours battery
logic tells me this is a good deal if you want a tablet.

    2. Its awesome because you can play apps on it and also not have to type on a touchscreen, I have a xoom and android 3.0 has all the kinks worked out

    3. I’m not saying it’s a bad tablet or device. I think it’s great for the price in the tablet market. However the tablet market is competing with the netbook/laptop market. I think that’s my main point. To this day I’m still questioning whether there is this pent up demand for touchscreen outside of the smartphone, but that’s another debate all together.

  3. I hope they have a deal on the combo–tablet + dock. The dock seems a little high compared to how much it is selling for in Taiwan and the UK.
