Archos Arnova 8 tablet available for pre-order

Hot on the heels of the Archos Arnova 10 budget 10 inch tablet, Archos is getting ready to ship a 7 inch model in the US. The Archos Arnova 8 is already up for pre-order from J&R for just $159.99.

At that price, you’re not going to get a bleeding edge processor or even support for the Google Android Market. But the tablet does have a lot to offer for a budget machine, including:

  • 8 inch, 800 x 600 pixel resistive touchscreen display
  • Google Android 2.1
  • Support for 720p HD video playback
  • 802.11b/g WiFi
  • Mic and speakers
  • Up to 5.5 hours of video playback

The tablet measures 8″ x 4.2″ x 0.5″ and weighs 13.7 ounces.

poor screen resolution and Android 2.X tells me they aren’t participating in the OHA which means this device won’t be seeing Honeycomb or anything like it for a long time, if ever.

In other words, NOT a Google authorized device. It’s one of those non-authorized devices that make Android look like crap = buy at your own risk and if you don’t like it don’t be comparing it to an Android device because it really isn’t.

It’s pretty likely Rockchip has or must be getting Honeycomb access, at least for their upcoming RK2918 processor based tablet devices. This Arnova 8 will be available with RK2918 and capacitive, if you just wait a bit longer, that’s definitely my recommendation, wait.

Do you think it will hit less than $100 during BF?

Sorry is this thing a POS? Not sure, but I smell something. I’m not sure if that’s a return after 3 days or what. For that price something tells me it’s poo poo. I hope I’m wrong but wow, how can they sell it so cheap unless it’s a real POS? Sorry for the overuse of POS but if the shoe fits…

It sounds reasonable for the price one it is set at and for what one gets.
