Archos Arnova 8 Android tablet now shipping

The Arnova 8 is a budget tablet  from Archos featuring an 8 inch, 800 x 600 pixel display, Google Android 2.1, 4GB of storage, and support for 720p HD video playback. The tablet went up for pre-order a few weeks ago, and now it’s in stock and shipping from Amazon for about $161.

The tablet has a resistive touchscreen and it Archos only promises up to 5.5 hours of video playback, so the Arnova 8 clearly isn’t a top of the line model. But for $161 plus shipping, it’s probably one of the most versatile tablets in its price range.

Update: J&R now has the Arnova 8 in stock as well, and the retailer is offering the tablet for $160 + free shipping.

thanks Nards-Barley!

I have been tracking this one cause I like the size and aspect ratio as a reader mostly. I don’t need cameras and such. However, since Charbax thinks this will be upgraded eventually, I am holding off for now. Too bad the soon to be available Coby Kyros 8 with similar form factor is going to have resistive screen because, I think the hardware and OS otherwise is respectable. Nonetheless, I would pick up the Coby 8 at around $150 if it ever goes for that.

Yeah, just wait another month or two for the Arnova line with RK2918 ARM Cortex-A8 1.2Ghz, that’s about 4x more powerful than this one that uses the RK2818 ARM9 600Mhz, and with a nice upcoming capacitive screen also.

Brad, you need to check in with J&R’s site more often. They’ve had at least one Arnova listed for several weeks and I’ve seen the box in the store. Don’t know which one, though. This first Arnova line with resistive screens doesn’t interest me.

Arnova 10″ and I think he has posted on it before. I would buy it if it had 512k ram, and ran on Android 2.2. It was on sale at HHGregg stores for $150 today. I almost bought it, but they wanted $20 shipping which made changed my mind for me.

I checked before writing this and J&R’s web site said the Arnova 8 was up
    for preorder.

PRO: nice design, brand (Archos != unknown chinese makers), rigth price for a tablet toy, no camera or other useless features that makes prices rising high
FAIL: resolution is too low to make it the ultimate comics reader (in my experience, minimum res to read everything well is 1024×600)

What a pity, with a 1024×600 resolution, this thing would be mine ASAP! Comics & magazines <3
