Yesterday the Home Shopping Network spilled the beans on an upcoming software update for the Barnes & Noble NOOKcolor eBook reader which would bring support for Adobe Flash and third party apps. Now Barnes & Noble has confirmed plans to release a software update soon. Despite HSN’s claims though, there doesn’t appear to be any mention of Home Shopping Network customers getting first crack at the new software.

The software will add support for “exciting new applications, e-mail, and many other requested features.”

It’s unlikely that the software update will bring support for the Google Android Market. Barnes & Noble has been promising to launch its own app marketplace with reading and multimedia focused apps since introducing the NOOKcolor tablet last year.

Of course, there’s nothing stopping you from hacking the device and installing your own favorite version of Android with access to the Android Market or other third party app stores.
