The Motorola XOOM is the first tablet to ship with Google Android 3.0 Honeycomb. And while the Honeycomb software developer kit has been available for about a month, leading to some pretty interesting independent efforts to get Honeycomb up and running on officially unsupported hardware, the SDK images can be a little sluggish and not all apps are included. Now, the night before the XOOM goes on sale in the US, a member of the xda-developers forum has posted a system dump from the XOOM.

What that means is that all the files from the /system folder are available for download. That doesn’t included wallpapers or icons. But it does include all the apps. Unfortunately one NOOKcolor user tried installed the Google suite of applications (including Gmail, Google Maps, and the Android Market) on his device with no luck. But I suspect it’s just a matter of time before someone figures out how to modify the apps to work on non-XOOM hardware.

Of course, Google will also probably release the source code for Android 3.0 soon. While that won’t bring support for the Google apps, which are not open source, it should make it much easier for hackers to get all of Honeycomb’s other features up and running on existing tablets.

You can find download links for the XOOM system dump at xda-developers.

Update: The download links have been removed due to DMCA infringement… but I’m pretty sure you can still find them online if you know where to look.
