While the Apple iPad is indisputably king of the tablet hill at the moment, with Apple having sold nearly 15 million units in 2010, the Samsung Galaxy Tab is gunning for it. Less than two months ago Samsung announced that a million Tabs had been sold. Now the company says more than 2 million units were sold within 3 months of the Android tablet’s global launch.

In a completely non-representative sample, I have to say I saw a lot more journalists and company reps wandering the floors of CES with iPads than any other tablet this year… but the second most frequently spotted tablet was definitely the Samsung Galaxy Tab.

Of course, Samsung and Apple still don’t have much competition yet, but that’s expected to change as new tablets from Motorola, RIM, HP, and others start to hit the streets in the coming months. Samsung is also expected to introduce its next-generation Android tablet soon.

Update: Samsung has clarified that the 2 million figure covers the number of tablets shipped to wireless carriers and other retailers, not necessarily end-users.

  1. Here in Canada I have yet to see a Galaxy Tab in the wild…TV commercials are very common on US channels but very little on CDN channels….iPads are running around everywhere

  2. Yes, what you say is true. In a year’s time, Apple’s sales will diminish once the other players come into the market. But then again, Apple will, as usual, come out with another new product, like the ipad2 and the others will have a hard time keeping up cause it would be so user friendly and fast. Futhermore, Apple has a strong following.

But the Samsung Galaxy Tab will be the biggest hit. Since there will be more 7 inchers by other manufacturers, people will think twice getting a Samsung product.
