The Samsung Galaxy Tab is still one of the new kids on the tablet block. While the company has already sold over a million units, making the Tab the best-selling tablet since the iPad, it’s only been available for a few months. But it looks like Samsung may be ready to introduce a new model as early as next week.

Korea Times reports that Samsung is “expected to reveal the newer version” of the Tab next week. That’s all we’ve got for now. It’s not clear if a new Galaxy Tab would have a larger display, faster processor, or other features to differentiate it from the 7 inch model currently available.

It’s likely that Samsung and its partners will be able to offer software updates to the 7 inch Tab that will let you upgrade the operating system from Android 2.2 to Android 2.3 Gingerbread and possibly to Honeycomb, the upcoming version of Android that Google says is optimized for tablets. So I imagine any new tablet that Samsung showcases at CES will have more going for it than just a new operating system. For instance, Google seems to be giving preference to tablets with NVIDIA Tegra 2 chips when it comes to Honeycomb development, so we could see Samsung drop its Hummingbird CPU for an NVIDIA chip. But we’ll probably find out for sure next week.

One reply on “Samsung may introduce an updated Galaxy Tab at CES”

  1. I was planning on buying a tab for myself for Christmas, but with Samsung planning to show off the second edition, I think that this will be worth waiting a little bit longer for.
