Archos 43 Android tablet now shipping for $250

There’s good news and bad news for anyone who has been waiting to get their hands on the new Archos 43 internet tablet. The good news is that the 4.3 inch Android tablet is now shipping. The bad news is that only the 16GB model is currently available, which means you’ll have to shell out $249.99 to get the little guy, rather than the $199 list price that Archos had promised. The lower price only applies to the 8GB model, which isn’t available yet.

Still, $250 is a pretty good price for the Archos 43 when you consider the lengthy list of features, including:

  • 4.3 inch, 480 x 854 pixel resistive touchscreen display
  • Google Android 2.2
  • 1GHz ARM Cortex A8 CPU
  • Graphics accelerator with support for 3D OpenGL ES 2.0
  • Video codec support including 720p MPEG, H.264, and WMV, with optional MPEG-2 codec
  • FLAC, WMA, WAV, AAC, MP3, OGG Vorbis audio playback (optional AC3 plugin)
  • 2MP camera with 720p HD video recording
  • USB 2.0 port with USB 2.0 Host support
  • HDMI output (cable sold separately)
  • 802.11b/g/n WiFi
  • Bluetooth 2.1
  • Speaker, Mi,
  • Kick-stand
  • G-sensor
  • MicroSD card slot

The Archos 43 weighs just 4.6 ounces and Archos says you should get up to 12 hours of battery life while surfing the web, 10 hours of video playback, or 36 hours of music playback.

If you’re looking for something a little smaller and cheaper, Archos is also shipping the Archos 32, a 3.2 inch tablet with a slower processor, less storage space, composite video output, and a lower capacity battery for $149.99.

Does this thing have the market?

  • KasinoKrazie

Still waiting for the Archos 101…not some tinee tiny 3 / 4 inch screen model.

Archos doesn’t have out of the box Google Market access, you can check the Archos forums for a known hack, but not all apps are made for tablets anyway. So they created their own market…

And some other 3rd App repos are also compatible…

Will you be reviewing this? Also, is Flash 10.1 available in the official firmware (without going through the Marketplace hack)?

Archos provides a Market patch for 2.1. None yet for 2.2.

I wanted to buy the Archos 43 ever since they announced it back in August. However, after being delayed for weeks (and the 200 bucks version is still not out there), and after seeing the horrible ‘hd’ video you get, and after an unanswered e-mail to Archos, I decided to buy a Nokia n900 for 320 bucks shipped (second hand, but very good conditions).

4.3 inch is a phone not a tablet

    No GPS. That’s a loser.

Is it true it’s touchscreen is resistive?

It’s only slightly longer than a LifeDrive. It’s slightly narrower than a LifeDrive. It’s a lot thinner and lighter than a LifeDrive. It has 4x (or 2x) the built in storage of a LifeDrive. It costs a lot less than a LifeDrive did in 2005. It has a larger, higher resolution screen (256,320 more pixels) than a LifeDrive. It supports SDHC, unlike LifeDrive. Plus there’s all the other thins the Archos 43 has the LifeDrive doesn’t. It looks to me like a perfect *replacement* for the Palm LifeDrive. All this Archos needs is a case with a metal flip cover to protect the screen when shoved into a bum-bag.

Well I can’t find the archos 43 anywhere, where I can buy it ugh. And…… amazon is out of stock where can I buy it email me at dice201251@gmail.com

You can try getting it directly from Archos if you can’t find it at a more local retailer.

I’d edit out your email btw, good way for spammers to get a hold of it and start sending you junk mail…
